Deuteronomy 30-31

Tomorrow is our last day in Deuteronomy.  You made it through 80 days.  Seems long?  Well, that is how many days Moses was on Mt. Sinia so suck it up buttercup. 😂

Chapter 30.   Yesterday we were warned that if they disobey they will be taken into captivity (we have about 1000 years of history to read before this happens), then they are scattered.  Today we read about the prophecy of some returning to Jerusalem (verse 1-10) ❤️. I love these verses: Returning to the Lord. ❤️

Moses completed all three of his speeches and only has few last things to do.  Moses meets with God and Joshua, and he writes the Law word for word.

Chapter 31: Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: “I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’ The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you…How Would You Feel if the Lord Said “No” to You? » Kehila News Israel

Take a moment to soak in how much you have learned so far this year.  Would you have been able to understand this scripture 80 days ago?

10 Then Moses commanded them: “At the end of every seven years, in the year for canceling debts, during the Festival of Tabernacles, 11 when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place he will choose, you shall read this law before them in their hearing.

So I guess our next read-through is 2028?  Mark your calendar.

The Lord meets with Moses “mono y mono” and says to him “Moses, since you won’t here I will tell you what’s going to happen!”

“You are going to rest with your ancestors, and these people will soon prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them. 17 And in that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and calamities will come on them, and in that day they will ask, ‘Have not these disasters come on us because our God is not with us?’ 18 And I will certainly hide my face in that day because of all their wickedness in turning to other gods.

Oh My! 😢

Ok, let me let you into my crazy brain for 1 moment.  That is about all people would be able to handle ( a moment).    Do you listen to worship music when you read?  Well, I read this today:

19 “Now write down this song and teach it to the Israelites and have them sing it, so that it may be a witness for me against them.

I know Moses is going to write a song.  Was it this one??? 😂

Verse 23, as the torch gets passed, The Lord speaks to Joshua!!  23 The Lord gave this command to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you.”

The book of the Law was written word for word and was placed beside the Ark of the Covenant.   Inside the Ark was:

  • Aaron’s budded rod,
  • manna,
  • and the tablets from Sinia.

So tomorrow is choir practice as 3 million people learn the song of Moses and we finish Deuteronomy!

I underlined some amazing scriptures.  I will share mine if you share yours. (I wonder if they are the same)

  1. I don’t have a specific verse, but I felt like the same message was repeated. God keeps saying “just listen me and do what I say is best for you.” I think of rebellious teenagers (me included) who think their ways and vast knowledge of less than 20 years of life are better than the knowledge and experience of the parent. So the Israelites were and so people (me included) are today with God.

  2. Thank you so much for this wonderful easy guide for daily Bible reading & your study comments. The song yesterday by George Strait was amazing as it could very well be Moses’ words; I couldn’t believe how fitting & will think of Moses every time I hear this song! I don’t know how you do all you do, but I am most appreciative. Many prayers for you & your family as you help & encourage so many! Thank you so very much. I am Emily Mofield’s mother & am so thankful she shared your studies with you! Sincerely, Janice

    1. Janice! It is so nice to meet you. You must be an amazing mother to raise someone so beautiful like Emily, I am not sure if you know how I met her. Emily became my coordinator a few years ago when I was given the gifted and talented program. I was a new teacher (a career change for me so I am an old person in a new career). She took me under her wing and was so encouraging. One day we were sitting on the floor at the convention center at MTSU for hours while my students competed at an invention convention. I honestly don’t know how it happened but I told her my testimony without filters. I had never done that before (and never since). We both had tears in our eyes. She told me hers and how she was raised (the opposite of my upbringing). Mya Angelou said, “people won’t remember what you said but they will remember how you make them feel”. Two women who could not have been more different shared how much God loved them. Sitting next to a woman like her usually would make me feel not worthy of the Lord’s Love. She made me feel the absolute opposite. Most people notice her hair (it’s gorgeous). But it is her eyes they need to look at. They are filled with compassion and love. I still find her very intimidating 😁, and when I saw she had jumped in on the reading I became so nervous…”why would a godly woman like her read this!”. I think God put her on this study to encourage me just like she did years ago and to know that someone was praying for me. When I see her name I hear in my heart “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving”. Col 3:23 because that is Emily!

  3. So many thoughts…I kept underlining “and I will be with you.” The Lord says to Moses – we’ve walked far enough, now it’s Joshua’s turn. Death and life are in His hands. I am struck by this…once again.
